What is Laser Dentistry?

Our Laser Dentistry features the most advanced laser systems on the market today. These systems are giant advancements in dental and cosmetic procedures. The soft tissue lasers are non-invasive and can provide incredible healing benefits. Utilizing these technologies provide for shorter healing times, no drills, no injuections and no pain most of the time. When looking for non-invasive solutions for gum diseases, cavities, or other oral issues, consider this options.

An Overview

During the last decade, many professionals started to use lasers more and more for treatment plans because of the laser’s benefits. Laser’s light beams focused precisely and extremely on the treatment areas to alter or remove inflamed tissues and kill bacteria without hurting other healthy tissues around. Since the light beam does not hurt many strong tissues, patients usually experience no pain, discomfort or bleeding after treatments and the recovery time is much quicker than traditional approaches. Laser dentistry also utilizes those benefits. Many different dental procedures can be done involving the medical laser technology, such as removing cavities and overgrown tissue, treating gum diseases, or whiten teeth. Moreover, laser dentistry is ideal for people and children who are sensitive to needles or have anxiety of dental work due to their past experiences.

Benefits

Anxiety associated with dental procedures are greatly reduce due to elimination of injections, drill sound and vibration.

The Erbium laser beam is concentrated light of a specific wavelength that is absorbed in water molecules. Tooth enamel and dentin contain high levels of water in their structure. The laser energy photons interact with the water molecules and remove microscopic bits of tooth structure with virtually no pain or discomfort for most people.

Adults and children respond well to the treatment, all they hear is a mild popping sound and a cool water spray, with no drill vibration. For those that treat special needs children and adults, the lack of noise is a benefit and helps management of these patients. The laser also helps to reduce bacteria in the tooth structure and helps prevent leakage and recurrent cavities under new fillings. The Erbium laser creates a surface on the tooth that enables high levels of adhesion to restorative material.

At Dental Excellence Integrative Center, we use the latest Laser Dentistry technology available on the market to provide even better treatments to our patients. Our Ultra-Laser solutions utilize the light technology (Erbium:Yag, Neodymium:Yag) to bring the most comfortable dental experience as bleeding and gum damage is absolutely minimized. In comparison with other traditional techniques, our Ultra-Laser treatments are:

  • No Pain or Discomfort

What Types of Lasers is Used in Our Practice?

There are two main types of lasers dentists use for their treatments: hard tissue and soft tissue lasers. Since each kind of tissue absorbs different wavelengths of light under varied levels, laser’s light beams can be adjusted to be compatible with different types of tissues in a patient’s mouth. Hard tissue laser uses a specific light wavelength to accurately cut into the calcium phosphate that’s in your bones and teeth to remove small amount of it in preparation for next treatment step in the procedure. Whereas, soft tissue lasers use another light wavelength that blood tissues and water absorb easily. Thus, these lasers are ideal for targeting on soft tissues and exposed blood vessels because they minimize the bleeding and help shorten recovery time more significantly. In Dental Excellence Integrative Center, we utilize both types of laser dentistry: hard tissue and soft tissue lasers.

During filling process when laser is used almost there is no need for injection and numbing. Application of laser to cavity prep reduces dentin hypersensitivity and disinfects tooth before final restoration is placed to, all bacteria is removed, and also stimulation of secondary dentin regeneration through Bio-stimulation effects of laser wavelength penetration is achieved. This will greatly reduce the chance of future need to root canals when the area is fully disinfected and sterilized.

Cosmetic- all skin and facial procedures that utilize Cellular Kinetic Physics to tighten and smooth skin. Also procedures that remove pigmentation vascular and sun induced. Examples of these kind of procedures are rejuvenating lips, Facial skin rejuvenation, Pigmentation (sun damaged, freckles and sun spots removal), Tear trough smoothing and skin tightening. Also there is an application for Functional modification of the Oro-Pharynx for treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
